- Install, patch, tune and back up PostgreSQL/MySQL/Oracle/SQL Server/MongoDB
- Query tuning, indexes, execution plans, locking, replication and HA (Patroni, Galera, Always On)
- Backups and point-in-time recovery; restore drills; capacity planning
- Migrations and upgrades; security (roles, encryption, audit)
Core skills
- SQL deeply; one engine’s internals (PostgreSQL is the best bet)
- Linux administration, storage I/O basics
- HA/replication patterns, backup tooling (pgBackRest, Percona XtraBackup, RMAN)
- Monitoring (pg_stat, Performance Schema, Grafana)
- Scripting (Python/Bash) for maintenance
