Free tool · 🧱 ZFS / RAID capacity calculator

How much do Iactually get?

The calculator we use before quoting storage: usable space, what can fail, how long a rebuild takes — and which layout fits VMs vs backups.

Decimal TB (manufacturer) vs TiB (what the OS shows) both displayed.

What it checks

Everything we would look at first on a client call.

Free, no sign-up, no email gate. If the report shows red, the fix is written next to it — and we are one click away if you would rather we did it.

  • Usable capacity and efficiency
  • Fault tolerance per layout and vdev
  • Rebuild/resilver risk estimate
  • Guidancemirrors for VMs, RAIDZ2 for bulk
FAQ

Common questions

Why not RAIDZ1 with big disks?
Rebuild of a 10+ TB disk takes many hours; a second failure during rebuild loses the pool. Use RAIDZ2 or mirrors.
Ceph instead?
For 3+ nodes and scale-out, yes — see the Proxmox sizer for replica overhead.
